10 Favorite Films of 2017

okay, so in 2016 i challenged myself to watch 100 films and i did and loved every second of it. but in 2017, i totally dropped the ball. my final movie count was a mere 44. not terrrrrible. but that's a pretty big drop from the previous year, so this list feels incomplete, as i feel like i missed a lot of amazing movies that came out this year. all that to say, here's my favorite films of 2017 (in no particular order)

BABY DRIVER (this had just the right balance of intensity, fun and cleverness. i just loved it)

GET OUT (holy smokes- this one blew me away in spite of having it WAY overly hyped by others before seeing it.)

COCO (absolutely loved this beautiful film! bravo, pixar!!)

STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI (i don't care what anyone says, i had a blast watching this. yes, there are a bunch of holes in the story and odd moments throughout, but it also had some of my favorite star wars imagery and moments too. i was more than satisfied and can't wait to watch again.)

SPIDER-MAN HOMECOMING (i've got a lot of superhero movies on this list, but of all of them, i think this one was the most interesting. more intimate story than the typical superhero film, but he's my favorite spiderman and i love how this film was approached.)

WONDERWOMAN (not a huge DC fan, but this was a homerun! had high expectations based on reviews, and it was even better than i had imagined. loved it.)

THE RED TURTLE (gorgeous on every level)

DUNKIRK (not my favorite nolan film, but goodness, that dude knows how to make a movie.)

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2 (i thought this was a lot of fun and i thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish.

LA LA LAND (yeah, yeah, i know. it was a 2016 movie. but i saw it this year and really loved it, so i'm counting it in.)

runner ups: LOGAN, KONG, LOGAN LUCKY, THOR, WAR FOR THE PLANET OF THE APES, AMERICAN MADE, CARS 3, OKJA.
